The Gloria Vocal Ensemble was formed in 1991. The ensemble consists of 14 professional musicians, teachers of musical colleges of St. Petersburg. The ensemble’s leader Boris Karandasov graduated from the oldest musical school in Russia — the royal Capella of St. Petersburg. He got an excellent schooling as a conductor and a soloist of the choir. He combines teaching choral music in St. Petersburg Conservatory with concert appearances as a soloist of Philharmonic Society and the conductor of the Ensemble.
The Gloria Vocal Ensemble performs in the best Concert Halls of the city. In summer 1991 the Ensemble toured successfully in Germany and Italy. The repertoire of the ensemble includes spiritual and secular music of Russian and foreign composers, works of modern composers and folk music. This disc represents Russian church hymns and folk music. Russian choral music originated from these stylistic sources. The recording was sponsored by the Commercial Company «Oksana, F. & Co.», headed by the president Yuri Dedov and the Baltic Ship Company «Petrobalt», headed by the president Victor Ruzanov.
